Teacher Bio:

Mrs. Anne E. Weisgerber

I received my BA in English from Keene State College in New Hampshire, and have an MBA in Marketing Research from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  I've also got graduate credits from Drew University, Kent State, and St. Mary's Honor College of Maryland.  I hold an ancient Class III FCC Radio License, as I spent some time as a disk jockey back in the day.  I love music. I've won the Society of Professional Journalist's First Prize for Feature Writing for a story I wrote about a ghost tour operator in Morristown. As a journalist, I had my work published in many national, state, and local news outlets.  I was the adviser to Summit High's student newspaper, Verve, for five years.  I'm approved by the College Board to teach both AP English Language and AP English Literature.

Before coming to Summit Senior High, I taught at the Union County Magnet High School, where I was voted 2007 Teacher of the Year.  I am also a Belfer Scholar via the US Holocaust Museum.  As a writer, I have studied with Randall Brown, Jerry Gabriel, Angela Pelster, Kathy Fish, Amy Hempel, and Nancy Stohlman.  I've taken courses with Hannah Tinti, Will Alison, and Patrick Ryan.

I write literary fiction when I'm not teaching.  Some of my most recent stories and essays are published in Berfrois, DIAGRAM, Jersey Devil Press, Heavy Feather Review, and SmokeLong Quarterly.  I read my work a few times a year in Brooklyn or at the KGB Red Room in the East Village, NYC.  In addition to being Assistant Editor at a literary journal, Wigleaf, I also write reviews, essays, and the occasional journalistic feature or profile.  In past summers, I attended Flash Fiction Writing Retreats in Breckenridge and Grand Lake, Colorado. I'm also a 2018 Chesapeake Writer, 2017's Frost Place Scholar at Robert Frost's farm in Franconia, NH. I am a Kent State University Reynolds Fellow.

I have three sons, all in their 20s, and am married to the artist, Paul H. Weisgerber.

My students who are interested in short fiction or cryptic tweets about writing should feel free to follow me on X/Twitter @AEWeisgerber, and stay in touch when our time in the classroom together concludes.  Note I do not follow back students. I'm always happy, and gratified, to discuss contemporary reading and writing with students.  I'll talk about sentences with you any day of the week.

My time at SHS is always pleasant.  It's my great pleasure to team with Mr. Michael Magdalenski, Ms. Liz Buettner, and Mr. Corey Walsh to teach AP Literature and Composition. I have the good luck to work alongside Mr. Ed Cama for English IV Seniors, and every day is wonderful, because I also get to work with Ms. Ashley Wollesen, my partner in the Journalism I curriculum.
